Supporting Loneliness in the Community: Introducing Mariposa Connections

Mariposa Care Group is proud to introduce Mariposa Connections, a new group-wide initiative dedicated to building meaningful relationships between care home residents and local community members.

Mariposa Connections will introduce a range of activities and programs through its supporting loneliness initiative to promote a feeling of community and inclusion. Which  aims to combat loneliness amongst those in their later years and enhance well-being by fostering relationships to create a sense of togetherness.

These include social gatherings, clubs and intergenerational events, all aimed at breaking down age barriers and creating a supportive network. By promoting meaningful interactions and mutual support, the initiative strives to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive community where everyone feels valued and connected.

 

Chris Beastall, Development Director at Mariposa Care, emphasised Mariposa Care’s commitment to addressing loneliness among older adults. He said:

“At Mariposa Care, we feel it is our responsibility to support those living within our care homes and nearby residents to feel connected to one another. By launching Mariposa Connections, we’re hoping to reduce feelings of loneliness amongst our residents and improve their overall wellbeing to ensure they live their best possible lives with us.”

Coffee & Community

Mariposa Care successfully conducted their first event as part of the Mariposa Connections initiative at Briardene care home. The event welcomed local community members for a delightful coffee and cake afternoon, which received an overwhelmingly positive response.

Kim Chambers, Home Manager at Briardene care home in Newcastle, said:

“We’re thrilled about the Mariposa Connections initiative and know the positive impact it will have on both our residents’ lives and those living nearby. Already, we’ve seen new friendships blossoming from our recent coffee morning, and it’s such a rewarding feeling to see our local community members enjoying our care home in this way and knowing we’re relieving feelings of loneliness”.
