On Wednesday 18th June 2025, our team at The Old Prebendal House care home in Shipton-under-Wychwood warmly welcomed local residents, families and community members to a vibrant open day, celebrating the homes recent renovations and revitalised community spirit.
Set against the backdrop of a beautiful sunny day, visitors enjoyed the care home’s picturesque gardens in full summer bloom, accompanied by live music from a local performer and, homemade canapés and refreshments served on the sun terrace. Lunchtime guests shared a delicious meal alongside residents, all freshly prepared by Head Chef ‘V’, while a live pianist played in the historic Tithe Barn dining room.
Activities throughout the day included a Birds of Prey educational talk including showcasing local rescue birds of prey, a beer tasting session hosted by the local Hook Norton Brewery, and an informative stall by the Wychwood Alzheimer’s Group, sharing valuable insights about dementia care and local support services.
Guided tours were offered throughout the event, giving visitors an exclusive look at the home’s thoughtfully refurbished facilities, including enhanced décor, the new memory loss areas inside and out, and the reimagined social spaces such as the Garden Room Lounge and Beauty Salon — all designed to create a welcoming, homely environment that supports residents’ wellbeing.
Our team at The Old Prebendal House were delighted to welcome many new visitors throughout the day, alongside local community members with long-standing ties to the home — including a former Director of Nursing from the homes’ earliest days, whose return proved especially meaningful for both staff and residents.
Val Baggott, Director of Care at The Old Prebendal House, said:
“It was wonderful to see so many members of our local community come together to share in such a positive and uplifting day. Events like this open day are at the heart of what makes The Old Prebendal House so special—a place where residents and neighbours connect and celebrate life together.
