Caring for our Heroes: Old Prebendal House achieves Veteran Friendly Framework Accreditation

11/10/2024

At Mariposa Care, we are committed to providing first-class care and support to all our residents – so we are thrilled to announce that Old Prebendal House care home in Chipping Norton was accredited with the Veteran Friendly Framework in September 2024; emphasising our homes’ exceptional ability to care for and support ex-soldiers and members of the armed forces.

The Veteran Friendly Framework is a programme developed by the Royal British Legion and NHS England. The Framework sets out additional standards of care to those provided by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to ensure a care facility can meet the specific needs of veterans, including tailored support plans, specialist staff training and a focus on community engagement.

To achieve this accreditation, The Old Prebendal House care home had to undertake additional staff training – and provide evidence that the facility and staff were able to adhere to the standards set out within the framework. This prestigious recognition underscores the Mariposa care commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all residents, including veterans and their families. The Old Prebendal House is just the first Mariposa Care home to achieve this – with several others also working towards this accreditation.

Kathryn Glass, is the VFF Project Lead at Royal Star & Garter and responsible for supporting and assessing care homes going through the scheme. She said:

“We’re delighted that The Old Prebendal House has achieved VFF status. This is a great commitment to their continuous improvement in the delivery of person-centred care for veteran residents and their partners.

This programme will benefit both current and future residents, along with current and future staff at The Old Prebendal House, who are able to access enhanced training and guidance to better engage with the unique military experiences that their residents and partners have lived through.”

A G, an ex-serving member of The Royal Artillery and current resident at The Old Prebendal House, shared his thoughts on the accreditation. He said: ” It’s reassuring to me to know that the home is taking the time to find out more about what being a Veteran means to us as individuals. We’re looking forward to meeting up with other Veterans from our local community, it’s all about supporting each other,”

Achieving the Veteran Friendly Framework accreditation is a significant milestone for the Old Prebendal House care home and the local Chipping Norton community; highlighting the welcoming and diverse community provided to residents in the area. As always, we remain committed to continuous improvement and ensuring that all residents receive the highest quality of care and support here at the Old Prebendal House.
