A Vibrant Community: How We Foster Connections at Mariposa Care

23/12/2024

As we transition into our later years, the personal relationships we have developed throughout our lives play a pivotal role in our care journey. Maintaining strong links with family and friends not only preserves our connection to the past but also enriches our next chapter of life and experience living in a care home.

At Mariposa Care, we strongly believe in the importance of nurturing these long-standing relationships while also providing opportunities for residents to create new connections whilst living with us. We prioritise community engagement through regular enrichment activities and events, where residents can experience a vibrant sense of community whilst embracing life with us.

By nurturing and growing these personal connections, we continue to enhance the lives of our residents throughout their later years. Continue reading to learn how we prioritise building strong communities within our care homes, whilst also nurturing familiar relationships to ensure everyone feels welcome and fulfilled within their lives with us.

Why community matters

Enhanced Quality of Life

Feeling connected within a community is essential to the physical, mental and emotional health for our residents. By regularly engaging with others and building new friendships, we help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation; supporting residents to live a more vibrant and enriched life.

Each Mariposa Care home has a dedicated team of Wellbeing Coordinators, who develop monthly activity calendars with the interests and hobbies of residents in mind.Through these various activities and events, residents are encouraged to interact, share experiences, and create lasting memories; encouraging participation and involvement.

Creating New Friendships

Creating strong bonds between residents and the wider community is crucial. These relationships foster a supportive environment, where individuals can rely on one another for companionship and encouragement. Whether it’s through shared hobbies, group outings – finding common interests make residents feel connected and enrich their lives.

How we achieve this

Welcoming Visitors

Regular visitors, including family, friends, and volunteers, play a vital role in fostering a lively environment at Mariposa Care. Their presence brings joy and energy, creating opportunities for meaningful interactions that enhance the overall experience for our residents.

Home Events

From seasonal celebrations to group activity sessions, we regularly host events within our homes which local residents, family and friends are invited to attend; these experiences bring joy to our residents, who relish the opportunity to showcase their home with others. We also actively seek partnerships with local organisations, schools, and businesses to promote collaborative projects. These initiatives not only benefit our residents but also strengthen community ties, ensuring that Mariposa Care remains an integral part of the local fabric.

Trips and Outings

From social club evenings to seaside lunches, museum visits to park picnics – we regularly plan a variety of trips and outings for our residents to take part in. These trips not only give residents a nice day out to enjoy, they also provide shared experiences for residents to bond over; whilst discovering new interests and meeting new people within their local community.

Our commitment to community engagement and personal connections, aligns closely with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) Single Assessment Framework, which emphasises the importance of person-centred care and the enrichment of residents’ lives through community engagement. According to the CQC, “effective care is built on meaningful relationships and engagement with others,” highlighting the necessity of fostering connections for overall wellbeing.

At Mariposa Care, the focus on nurturing personal connections and promoting community involvement directly supports this , ensuring that residents not only maintain ties to their past but also actively participate in their present, thereby enhancing their quality of life and emotional health throughout their care journey.
