Days Out, at Home: Derwent Care Home Opens New Facilities

We are incredibly proud to announce the completion of our refurbishment project at Derwent Care Home in Low Westwood; with all upgrades to the home now finished, and the highly anticipated Apple Tree Cafe, The Orangery and The Village Shop now open for residents and relatives to enjoy. 

Completed in May 2024, these new destinations now provide residents and relatives the opportunity for new daily explorations and social interactions; both of which are essential for physical and emotional well-being.

Understanding the unique challenges faced by those living with dementia, these facilities have been meticulously designed to create a safe and stimulating environment that encourages all residents to explore, engage, and enjoy life at Derwent to the fullest.

With these new additions, Derwent care home has elevated the standards of elderly and dementia care offered in the area. By continuously exploring and implementing the latest in care techniques and technologies, Derwent ensures that its residents are not just well cared-for but continue to live their best possible lives.

“We always had high expectations for this project, but it has turned out even better than we anticipated – the response from residents, relatives and staff at Derwent has been absolutely fantastic. 

With the bedroom upgrades, each one now looks like a boutique hotel room with new homely yet stylish décor; and the new facilities themselves just blow you away. These changes have uplifted the atmosphere at the home and created such a buzz amongst everyone. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved and thank all residents, relatives and staff for their patience throughout the project. 

Our Home Manager, Julie, and her team are now busy preparing for their upcoming Open Day where we look forward to showing our fantastic care home to the local community.” 

Derwent is also expanding its services beyond the home to the local community, aiming to combat loneliness among elderly residents living nearby.

By providing access to amenities like the dementia-friendly hair salon and hosting coffee and games sessions at the Apple Tree Café, Derwent care home is fostering relationships with the community and making a positive impact on the area.
