We may be in lockdown here at Sovereign Lodge Care Home in Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne, but we refused to frown during May. We’ve had some lovely weather recently which has allowed us to enjoy entertainment in the garden. Huge thanks go out to James Fox, our favourite Elvis performer and Christine Rosemond for her VE Day inspired set last month.
We’d also like to thank all of the people in the surrounding areas that have donated items to the home. We’ve had all sorts from knitted headbands to sweet treats and we are so appreciative of those gifts.
While our home is closed to visitors still – our garden isn’t. Visitors are welcome to book a visiting slot (weather permitting). Please be advised we can only allow one person from each family to visit at a time and you must wear a face mask to help protect our residents. There is also Skype, Facetime and Whatsapp available but again calls need to be booked in advance to avoid our busy times. We hope to see some relaxation in the rules soon. We will of course keep everyone updated. Our main concern right now, as ever – is the safe and best possible care of our residents.
As well as the usual day to day activities, June promises to bring a host of things to keep our minds and bodies active.
We will be having the usual quizzes and puzzles to keep our minds going as well as the odd sing along with our lifestyle support, Pauline who will no doubt rope carer Graham in to help.
Christine arrives at work around 0745, makes a quick cuppa then starts her shift at 0800. She serves the residents with their breakfast in the dining room or their bedroom assisting anyone who may need help.
After lunch, Christine, along with her colleagues will assist Lifestyle Support, Pauline with the afternoon’s activities. She does like a good sing along. After dinner, Christine assists with bathing and other requirements before updating her paperwork and heading off home once the nightshift team arrive at 2000.
It’s a shame we’ve been in lockdown and unable to visit places especially as we’ve had some gorgeous weather. Here are a few things we have coming up in June to keep us upbeat: Singer Kevin in the garden, Alzheimer’s society Cupcake Day, Father’s Day, Quizzes, Bingo, Flower arranging, Cocktail/ mocktail garden party, Pamper sessions, Sing along, Afternoon tea and a pool competition on the new pool table. We offer companionship, security and first-class care. We give all our residents the freedom to live their lives with the additional tailored support from us, should they need it. We help you to keep your mind and body active and support you in maintaining your lifestyle choices, friendships and links to your community. You may well find some new hobbies and interests too.
We don’t have many birthday’s in June; however, Eva will be celebrating her 90th. I’m sure we’ll be having a bit of cake and a glass of fizz to celebrate.
The managers were set a challenge to stand with their back against the wall, with their knees bent at a 90-degree angle for as long as they could. As you can see from the picture earlier, they weren’t very good at it.
Singer, Kevin will be performing in the garden on Tuesday 9th June. I’m sure given the date he’ll give us a rendition of the Blaydon Races.
Massive congratulations to Care Assistant Emma and her partner Suni on the birth of their gorgeous baby girl, Millie Mae, born on the 22nd May.
