In April 2025, Riverwell Beck Care Home in Carlisle proudly became the first care home in Cumbria to achieve the Veteran Friendly Framework accreditation — a prestigious recognition that marks a significant milestone for both Mariposa Care and the wider local care community
The Veteran Friendly Framework is an initiative created by the Royal British Legion and NHS England. This framework establishes supplementary care standards beyond those set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), ensuring that care facilities can address the unique needs of veterans.
Being awarded the Veteran Friendly accreditation means Riverwell Beck adheres to all the guidelines and standards outlined in the Veteran Friendly Framework. Each aspect is designed to help care homes offer the best possible support to veterans. This includes providing tailored care plans, staff training and services that acknowledge veterans’ unique experiences and contributions, ensuring they feel valued and supported.
Wendy Carruthers, Home Manager at Riverwell Beck, expressed her heartfelt pride at this achievement. She said:
