A Spring Refresh for The Old Prebendal House Following Refurbishment

11/04/2025

We are delighted to share that The Old Prebendal House Care Home in Shipton-under-Wychwood, near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, will be re-opening on Tuesday 15th April following recent refurbishment works.

In keeping with Mariposa Care’s commitment to the ongoing development of the Grade II listed building for modernisation while offering residents outstanding, homely living spaces. The refurbishment will revitalise the residential and nursing care home with new interior decor, high-quality furnishings, and top-tier amenities that exceed care industry standards.

Additionally, there will also be a redesign to the layout of the Garden Room Lounge, Hair Salon, and Reception Area, optimising the spaces to offer new opportunities for social engagement and community interaction. There will also be new internal and external specialist areas introduced, designed to meet the needs of residents with memory loss conditions – providing safe and secure spaces that are both comfortable and engaging.

As the renovations conclude, enthusiasm is growing among our current residents and staff, as well as among new residents eagerly awaiting their return. Revitalising The Old Prebendal House will not only serve as a care home but will also function as a vibrant community space for events and gatherings, fostering connections within our local area.

Our current residents will be the first to enjoy their newly refreshed home as they return from their temporary stay at Penhurst Gardens on Tuesday, allowing them time to settle in before we start welcoming new residents from May 2025.

Val Baggott, Director of Care at the Old Prebendal House, is preparing a comprehensive calendar of events and activities for when the home reopens in April 2025, aimed at establishing the home as a central hub for both residents and members of the local Shipton-under-Wychwood (and beyond) community.

Val Baggott, Director of Care, said:

“The refurbishment at Old Prebendal House fills me with excitement, as they are not only upgrading of our living spaces, but also allowing us to optimise our unique building layout to create a thriving community within our home. I believe these changes will help residents feel even more at home, allowing them to enjoy their beautiful surroundings while connecting with one another and forming lasting friendships. I can’t wait to see how these enhancements will bring everyone together!”

Although a recent flooding event has expedited the refurbishment schedule, it has also created an excellent opportunity to rejuvenate The Old Prebendal House for 2025.

With Mariposa Care leading the project alongside specialist care home contractors, this historic building and excellent care setting will emerge even stronger and more luxurious, ready to fulfil the needs of the surrounding elderly community whilst honouring the beauty of its rich past. With specialist flood prevention contractors will ensure any further environment risk is totally nullified.
