New Director of Care at The Old Prebendal Estate

12/08/2021

Welcoming Stephen Griffin

Along with its new aesthetic changes, the Old Prebendal Estate has also welcomed new management as Stephen Griffin has joined the Mariposa Care family as Director of Care at the Old Prebendal House, from Richmond Village.

Stephen has been a Registered Manager since 1997 and brings with him a wealth of experience in nursing and social work; managing residential, nursing, domiciliary and outreach services for children with disabilities as well as adults with physical and mental health needs and older people requiring general and dementia nursing care.

Since joining The Old Prebendal Estate in June, Stephen has already proved himself to be an excellent leader; having recently supported his team to orchestrate a smooth transition for our residents as they moved back into the home following the completion of its 12-month refurbishment works.

Having now settled back into the Old Prebendal Estate, we thought it would be a great time to get to know our new Director of Care a bit more; so we put him to the test with some fun icebreaker questions below.

What are three things you can’t live without?

My two daughters, my dogs and fresh coffee

What do you like the most about the Old Prebendal House care home?

Everything! OPH is such a unique care home that offers charm, warmth, and luxury. I really like the fact that all the bedrooms are different, quirky, and welcoming. The staff team are so welcoming and positive too.

What were your reasons for working in care?

My Mother was a care home nurse and from the age of 6 I used to visit the residents and play the piano for them. I also used to enjoy talking to the residents and learning about their working lives. I still remember many of those conversations I had with the residents. Back then all the bedrooms were shared ( up to six residents to a room) and I remember thinking that I would want to change that, so every resident had their own room.

Where are you most likely to be found on your days off?

Walking the dogs on the common or spending time in the garden which I have recently landscaped.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life

My Father who is 87. Up until Covid he worked fulltime as an undertaker and never took a day off sick in his entire life.

What are the key pillars for successful and positive resident care?

Always work in partnership with the resident and their family, and never compromise your standards, values, or beliefs

How important is a strong staff group?

A strong staff team is always the key success to delivering the best care possible. The key ingredient to a successful team is that everyone knows what we are striving to achieve, and their manager supports them and leads the way.

Best advice you’ve ever received?

Always be yourself and smile when things get tough.

What’s the best thing that happened to you in the last year?

Being offered this role as Director of Care at the Old Prebendal Estate

What are you most excited for heading in to 2021?

Settling our residents back into OPH and returning the estate to be a vibrant happy community once again.

I look forward to meeting you soon

Stephen is really looking forward to meeting all of our residents’ friends and family, getting more involved within the local community and introducing our new residents to the wonderful Old Prebendal Estate.
