Coffee & Community Spirit: New Potting Shed Cafe at Sovereign Lodge

09/04/2024

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming completion of an exciting project at Sovereign Lodge care home ; elevating standards of care and heightening feelings of community for residents through new, elderly living facilities.

As a part of this project, the care home will unveil a new look for the specialist elderly living and dementia areas with uplifted decoration and a communal entrance sitting area specifically designed to encourage activtity and social interactions. The design schemes, artwork and decor included within the refurbishment have been specially chosen to reflect the history and charms of the local area in Westerhope; a settlement built in Victorian times to house working families with sufficient land to grow vegetables.

Upon completion, the home will also open its new ‘Potting Shed’ cafe, another nod to the area’s history – designed as a comforting and recognisable setting for elderly individuals and those living with dementia. The introduction of the new cafe is intended to establish a destination where residents can visit, unwind and participate in meaningful activities, all while experiencing a sense of independence.

Teresa Stephenson, Home Manager at Sovereign Lodge, said:

“We are thrilled to introduce the Potting Shed cafe as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for our elderly residents including those living with dementia. This new destination will not only provide a space for our residents to feel at ease and engaged but also serve as a hub for social interaction and meaningful connections. We look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our residents’ lives.”

The ‘Potting Shed’ at Sovereign Lodge will be a welcoming destination within the home, complete with comfortable seating areas, full-functioning barista kitchen and decor that reflects the local area.

Residents will have the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee, participate in memory-enhancing games, or simply unwind in a soothing atmosphere; whilst enjoying access and views of the surrounding elderly and dementia-friendly gardens through the new double patio doors. Mariposa Care is dedicated to promoting a sense of well-being and independence among its residents, and the ‘Potting Shed’ cafe is a testament to this commitment.

Chris Beastall, Development Director at Mariposa Care, said:

“We are delighted with how the refurbishment is coming along at Sovereign Lodge, and know this is going to truly transform the levels of care we’re able to offer our elderly residents including those living with dementia.

This renovation, and introduction of the ‘Potting Shed’ cafe is part of our wider elderly and dementia care strategy which aims to redefine care offerings in the area – and by the progress made so far, it’s clear we are on track to achieve our goals. We look forward to seeing the project complete, and witnessing first hand the significant impact facilities like this can have on residents wellbeing”
