Mariposa launches an exciting new training programme for Wellbeing Coordinators

22/07/2024

Mariposa is launching an exciting new Wellbeing Coordinator training programme as part of our commitment to education, team progression and career development.

The Wellbeing Coordinator Development Programme underlines our strong commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of our residents through the promotion of independence and person-centred care.

The programme will be delivered through a combination of practical training, e-learning and face-to-face sessions. It is being led by Catherine Ruddick, Mariposa’s Regional Wellbeing and Community Engagement Lead, and is designed to ensure our team members have the confidence, knowledge, and skills to be outstanding in this area in all our care homes.

What does a Mariposa Wellbeing Coordinator do?

If you are interested in a rewarding and fulfilling career, then a Wellbeing Coordinator role could be the right opportunity for you. You’ll be working alongside your care home colleagues to help deliver group and individual wellbeing activities for our fantastic residents.

You’ll be responsible for coordinating personalised and 1 to 1 activities too. Every one of our residents has a personal care plan, which outlines existing hobbies and interests, and as the Wellbeing Coordinator you’ll be involved in the lifestyle element of this part of the plan. Our Wellbeing Coordinators are highly skilled at this, working closely with each resident to understand their challenges as well as likes and dislikes, and adapting activities to suit individual needs.

Whether it’s gardening, drawing, craft or a lifelong passion for the local football club, that’s where your ideas and natural creativity will shine through.

Wellbeing activities in our care homes might include:

• Enjoying podcasts, books and favourite writers
• Baking and cooking, drawing inspiration from favourite traditions and cuisine from around the world!
• Creative arts and crafts
• Reminiscence through art
• Individual trips outside the home such as a visit to a sports match, local beauty spot or pub
• And if a resident can’t visit outside the home, we’ll bring the experience to them. For example, if someone has always loved musicals and can’t get to the West End, we’ll take a virtual visit to enjoy the sights and sounds and the glitz and glamour!
• Group sing-a-longs
• Gardening and flower arranging
• Concerts and performances
• Live and interactive video sessions with musicians and entertainers
• Relaxation and wellbeing activities, including meditation, yoga and pilates
• Faith sessions
• Intergenerational activities
• Celebrations such as Diwali, Christmas and Pride
• Plus lots more…

Who can apply for a Wellbeing Coordinator role?

Ideally, we are looking for someone to have care experience, as this role is best suited for an enthusiastic team player who would like to show off their creative side whilst working in a care setting. Many of our current Wellbeing Coordinators have previously worked in a care home but have made the decision to move to an activities role because they find it so rewarding.

Of course, we know that people from other backgrounds make excellent Wellbeing Coordinators too. What all our Wellbeing team members have in common is their creativity, adaptability and love of people.

In return, our new Wellbeing Coordinator Development Programme offers support, professional development and best practice, inspiring us to deliver on the Mariposa vision for wellbeing and community engagement across all our care homes.
