Mariposa Care offers Specialist Training in Autism and Learning Disabilities

28/01/2025

At Mariposa Care, we’re committed to providing the very best for our residents while supporting our amazing team members to grow and excel in their roles. That’s why we’re proud to celebrate our ongoing partnership with Howe2 Training & Consultancy and to deepen our organisation’s understanding of autism and learning disabilities.

We’ve been working closely with Howe2 Training & Consultancy for some time, delivering courses that equip our teams with the skills and confidence to provide exceptional care. Now, we’re pleased to share that Mark Howe-Senior, the founder of Howe2 Training & Consultancy, has been approved to deliver Tier 2 of The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism.

What is The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism?

This training is a vital initiative inspired by the story of Oliver McGowan, a young man whose death highlighted the urgent need for better training and understanding across the health and social care sector. The Health and Care Act 2022 now requires all CQC registered service providers to ensure staff have training on learning disability and autism.

The Oliver McGowan programme, which is the Government’s preferred and recommended training, is delivered in two parts: a blend of e-learning and in-person sessions co-delivered by accredited trainers with expert lived experience of autism and learning disability. It focuses on building the skills and knowledge necessary to provide personalised and effective care.

This isn’t just about meeting a requirement, however. It’s about creating meaningful change and improving outcomes.

Why is this so important for Mariposa Care?

At Mariposa Care, we know that great care starts with a great team and a great team needs great training. Thanks to Howe2 Training & Consultancy and the inspirational work of Mark Howe-Senior, we’re giving our staff the tools to shine, grow and deliver outstanding care for our residents. Mark has autism himself and brings a real-life perspective to the training.

Mark’s company has also been named Disability Champion of the Year in the Corporate Vision Education & Training Awards 2024.
