At Mariposa, we recognise that every single person plays an important role in ensuring that our amazing residents feel safe, happy and at home during their time with us. That’s why we invest in high-quality training for all our teams – so that every one of us has the skills and knowledge to provide the very best for the people we care for.
We also believe that, with the right support and access to clear development pathways, health and social care offers a rewarding career and real opportunities for progression. Alongside regular and ongoing training, our teams can also undertake fully funded apprenticeships across all roles, open to everybody from entry-level to senior managers.
This year, our annual team survey looked at how well we support both ongoing learning and development, and further qualifications – including apprenticeships. We invited team members across our 10 Mariposa Care homes to complete the survey, giving the option to either fill in a paper copy or submit an online form.
As ever, the honest feedback we received was invaluable and in this blog post, we’re sharing some key results and feedback.
Of the people who took part in the survey, 88% agreed that Mariposa Care does enough to support learning and development.

While this is a great result, we are always looking for ways to improve and our teams provided some useful feedback about how to offer even more opportunities to grow and learn. Some survey participants would like even more training in dementia and mental health, while others weren’t sure about the other training and development opportunities available to them.
Around 84% of staff said they were satisfied with the level of training provided in order to fulfil the requirements of their role, while 33% of people who completed the survey said they were interested in progressing their career further.
It was great to hear how many of our team members are interested in learning more about key themes such as dementia and mental health. We offer extensive training in both these areas – a combination of mandatory and recommended courses – which are completed either face-to-face or via e-learning. Following the survey, we’ve encouraged team members who want to complete additional training to reach out and this will be arranged.
Our training partners offer a wealth of face-to-face courses, and we are always identifying even more opportunities for our teams to learn. (In fact, you can read more about our specialist training in autism and learning disabilities by following the link here.)
It was also good to hear that around a third of our teams are interested in developing their career in care. Apprenticeships are just one of the ways for people of all ages across our teams to upskill and invest in their career development, and we’re happy to support funded qualifications to unlock routes to promotion.
We have some fantastic stories of our care staff becoming seniors, managers and regional managers – when we say we promote from within, we really mean it. Over the coming months, we’re aiming to do more to promote our apprenticeship opportunities and circulating key information among our teams.
We are committed to supporting learning and development across all our roles, as well as offering apprenticeships and qualifications to those who wish to further their career in health and social care.
