At Mariposa, we pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment, where employees from diverse backgrounds and cultures come together with one common goal – to provide exceptional care for our residents. This year, our annual team survey looked at how well we are achieving this and help us better understand and identify areas where we can improve.
We asked team members across our 10 Mariposa Care homes to complete the survey, giving the option to either fill in a paper copy or submit an online version. The feedback we received was invaluable, and in this blog post we’re sharing some key results and insights.
One of the most positive outcomes of the survey was the response regarding how we acknowledge a wide range of people, cultures and backgrounds. An impressive 97% of staff who completed the survey believe that Mariposa does enough to recognise and celebrate diversity.
That said, we are always striving to do better and our teams provided constructive feedback about how we can even further enhance the inclusivity of our care homes. Survey participants expressed a desire for cultural representation through food and activities, including hosting festivals and introducing a “round the world” menu.
Another suggestion was to broaden our community involvement, encouraging even deeper connections between our homes and the local areas in which we live and work.
We also asked what we could do to attract and retain a diverse team. Feedback showed that our survey participants wanted to see a diverse range of people on our careers pages, and the provision of more learning opportunities for people new to care.
Every individual in our teams is responsible for residents’ wellbeing, lifestyle and engagement, and we also employ Wellbeing Coordinators who work alongside our Regional Wellbeing and Community Engagement Lead to ensure we are present in our local communities enabling residents to have positive, fulfilling and accessible experiences.
This year we launched our Mariposa Connections project, to provide activities, events and support for people who are lonely in the local community. We will be continuing to grow and build on this project through 2025, so watch this space for more! We are also taking forward all brilliant suggestions and ideas and sharing these with our kitchen teams too.

When it comes to improved representation in our recruitment materials, we are updating our careers website with new photography and videography. This aims to highlight our wonderful team of individuals and the brilliant career opportunities we can offer in health and social care.
We’ve heard the feedback about supporting those new to care. We’re always pleased to welcome those who are taking their first steps into the health and social care sector and offer a thorough induction process for everyone who joins us (whether new to a care role or with years of experience).
We also encourage our homes to organise a ‘buddy’ or ‘mentor’ for new starters to help people settle in.
Our Team Survey also asked about wellbeing with 90% of staff who completed the survey agreeing that Mariposa Care offer enough physical health and mental health support and information.
People said they liked our private healthcare options, which gives money back on everyday health expenses such as dental and optical treatment. This is available to everyone who joins the Mariposa team and you can find out more by following the link here.
We agree that it is important to promote mental health and offer access to information and help, so we’ll be organising a full programme of events and activities for our teams in 2025, with lots of opportunities to get involved.
The CQC Single Assessment Framework sets the standards by which each care provider in England is measured. It standardises assessments across all facilities to compare and assess performance. The framework looks into how care homes perform across five key areas, called the CQC Five Key Questions:
1. Is the service Safe?
2. Is the service Effective?
3. Is the service Caring?
4. Is the service Responsive?
5. Is the service Well-led?
As part of the 2024 survey, we took the opportunity to ask our teams to rate statements based on these five key principles. Here are some of the key findings:
We are committed to continuing our journey towards becoming an even more inclusive and welcoming employer. The feedback provided will help shape future initiatives, and we look forward to working together as a team to put these ideas into action. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in the survey.
